Campus wide terms

  • Registrar's office: This office is on the main floor of the Huffman building. It is where you go (besides going to your advisor) for most things related to courses you are (or want to be) enrolled in.
  • Major-minor guides: These are guides that are found on my.betheluniversity.edu and maintained by the registrar's office to indicate what courses are required to get a degree in a given major or to add a minor to your program. These do not indicate when each course should be taken or any pre/co-requisites.
  • Pre-requisites: A course that must be taken (and passed with a C- or above) before taking the current course. These can be found in the course description of the catalog.
  • Co-requisites: A course that must be taken the same semester as the current course. These can be found in the course description of the catalog.
  • Catalog: This is an official document about most academic policies at Bethel. It has a list of all courses and majors at Bethel. Course information includes the course description, number of hours, and any pre/co-requisites. It also includes the requirements for a major or minor. It does not indicate when a given course will be offered.
  • Schedule: This document displays which courses will be offered in the upcoming term (and might also include May term, summer term, and winter term courses). It will includes who is the instructor, when and where the course meets, and possible additional information.
  • Advising
  • Course number: An example: CSC 210. The first part is the program associated with the course. The second part indicates a specific course. Typically the first number of the second part indicates the level of the course (1 for freshmen to 4 for seniors). If there is a L at the end, this indicates that it is a lab
  • Section number: An example: CSC 121L 02. This is the third part indicating a specific offering of a given course. It is used to distinguish the specific class meeting time(s), instructor(s) and location(s) for that course.
