---+ College Gems for Succeeding ---++ Overview ---+++ What is this all about There are many things that one can do to be able to get the most out of a college education. Some of these deal with making a transition from high school to college. Others deal with how to succeed in a Dr. Bareiss class. These Gems cover some of these "secrets." The idea is to provide students help in some very specific areas. There are two ways to use them. One is to just read them for you own benefit. This you may do at any time for any reason. In this case you may skip the last part of any Gem. (But consider doing them anyways, just don't turn them in.) The second is to do them and earn extra credit ---+++ How to earn extra credit To earn extra credit you will need to make a commitment with the instructor for the class you want extra credit. There are a number of steps and a number of "regulations". * Steps 1. Register your intention by filling out the [[https://bethel-university.formstack.com/forms/college_gems_registration][form]]. 1. Complete each of your chosen gems by midnight of the deadline you specified. 1. Whenever you complete a specific gem, turn that report from the requirements section in using the [[https://bethel-university.formstack.com/forms/college_gems_submission][submission form]]. You should submit a pdf document. Each gem should have its own report. * Regulations 1. Once you register a triplet of gems, you can earn one percentage point in your final grade if you complete all three on time. If you only complete two, your grade won't be impacted. However if you only complete 1 (or none), you will lost a percentage point of your final grade. Do not commit to do them if you are unsure if you will complete them. 1. Each gem can only be done for one class. So if you are taking more than one class from Dr. Bareiss, pick carefully which grade you want impacted by that triplet. 1. The form requires you to pick a gem for each of the three categories. That is on purpose 1. Don't forget that you can use all of them to do better without any risk to your grade. Just don't register them. 1. You must register your participation by midterm. 1. You can register up to five times. 1. I highly recommend you start with the ones where you need to most help. However this is up to you. ---++ Topics 1 Skills * [[Gems2022Exam][Studying for the exam]] * [[Gems2022Outlook][Using Outlook's calendar]] * [[Gems2022Tracking][Tracking tasks]] * [[Gems2022Zoom][Zoom manners]] * [[Gems2022Email][Email manners]] 1 Responsibility * [[Gems2022Reputation][A good reputation is essential]] * [[Gems2022Clock][The clock matters (being on time)]] * [[Gems2022Quality][Appearance of work matters]] * [[Gems2022Calendar][The calendar matters (getting work done on time)]] * [[Gems2022Help][Getting and giving help appropriately]] 1 Getting the most out of class * [[Gems2022Notes][Note taking is vital]] * [[Gems2022Lost][Being lost in class]] * [[Gems2022Bored][Being bored in class]] * [[Gems2022Ready][Getting ready for class]] * [[Gems2022After][After class]]
