This course introduces the student to discrete variables and their various applications. Selected topics may include: counting systems; cardinality; combinatorics; discrete and continuous variables; graph theory; decision theory; recursion; and cryptography.

   * Integrity:  It is important that the work you turn in is your own work.  Assignments are made to help you learn the material.  If you don't do the assignment yourself, then you have lost that opportunity to learn the material.  This is not to say, you can't get help!  This is expected.  But at the end of the help, you need to be able to to the work by yourself.  This is not teamwork either (unless stated).  This is not something that two or more people work on as a group and each turns in a copy.  You should work on the assignments individually and then come together with questions and/or to check your work.  But the write-up should still be yours.

---+++Assignments
   * Homework: There will be daily and/or homework assignments.  This assignments will be given at the start of that section/chapter of the textbook.  The work is to be turned in via hard copy at the start of the class on the date specified when assigned.  It is essential to stay current on this work.  Assignments are given to help students understand and conquer the material in time for the exams.  Because of this, no homework will be accepted after the exam over that material.  Late homework policy is as follows:
      * A little late (more than 5 minutes but by the end of class) -> 2% penalty
      * Not prepared but done (typically less than 20 hours) -> 5% penalty
      * First late -> due by next class period -> no penalty.  Must specify when turning in on the assignment
      * Second late -> 10% penalty per 24 hour period until turned in
      * Third Late -> 20% penalty per 24 hour period until turned in
      * Fourth Late -> 40% penalty per 24 hour period until turned in
   * Programming Assignments
      * A few programming assignments might be made during the semester.  Details will be given in class during the semester
   * Quizzes.  Quizzes may be given.  These will typically be found on Canvas

      * 60% of the grade will be based on the exams
      * 25% on homework and quizzes
      * 15% on programs

      * 93% <= average <= 100% ->	A
      * 90% <= average < 93% ->	A-
      * 87% <= average < 90% ->	B+
      * 83% <= average < 87% ->	B
      * 80% <= average < 83% ->	B-
      * 77% <= average < 80% ->	C+
      * 73% <= average < 77% ->	C
      * 70% <= average < 73% ->	C-
      * 67% <= average < 70% ->	D+
