---+ Computing Internships ---++Purpose The goal of an internship to see what it is like to be a computing professional. This is different than trying to help out a user. They don't know what is acceptable as a professional vs. what will just work. ---++For credit Requirements: * *Supervision*: The internship must be supervisor by a computing professional that is not close relative. Any exceptions to this must be pre-approved. * *Number of credit hours*: For each hour of credit you should be working at least 45 hours. You must be enrolled in CSC 398 or CSC 397 for at least one hour if you are doing an internship for credit. If the internship is during the summer, you may register for one hour during the summer and 2 hours in the fall (even if all work is done during the summer) if the writing of the report by the student is done during the fall. * *Type of work*: The work needs to be directly computing related. There needs to be a decent size project as part of the time. So working at the help desk is fine as long as there is a well defined project as part of that. One example would be leading the role up of an update of the computers. * *Pay?* This work can be volunteer work or for pay. ---++Paperwork * To enroll in an internship, you must have two forms: An Internship application form and a drop/add form. To complete this form you must have a actual employment commitment. You can not apply to do an internship after you have start the internship * During the internship, you need to communicate with the Bethel supervisor at least once every other week with a brief summary of what was done and any insights gained during that period. * At the end of the internship, the employee supervisor needs to give the Bethel Supervisor a report of the student's work. * At the end of the internship, the student is to submit a paper (about 10 pages, single spaced) discussing the internship experience. If this is being done during the fall or spring semester, student should be enrolled in at least one hour a credit to allow for regular meetings with the Bethel supervisor to discuss the experience and the writing of the report ---++Not for credit You may do as many internships as you wish. Only one should be done for credit. Non credit ones have no constraints.
